Val Cenis Lanslebourg

The Maurienne Valley is the longest alpine valley in France. It has been shaped by millennia of exchanges between the eastern and western Alps, as well as by the unique history of Savoy. The result is a rich agricultural, mining, religious and historical heritage, as well as routes over the high alpine passes.

Haute Maurienne extends from the Col de l’Iseran to the Essaillon forts, just upstream from Modane. To the northwest lies the Vanoise National Park, while the Graie Alps and the Italian border mark its southeastern edge.

In Val Cenis Lanslebourg, the International Center for Ethical Stays Etapes will welcome us at an altitude of 1400 meters, surrounded by peaks over 3500 meters.

Acces

  • By train: Travel to Modane via TGV or regional train from Paris, Chambéry, Lyon, Grenoble, Milan, or Turin. From Modane, take bus #S52 or #S53 to Lanslebourg (30-minute ride, stop at Pont du Folgoët, 250m from the Center : 10, chemin des Crueux 73480 Val-Cenis Lanslebourg ).
  • By car: Take the highway to Modane from Paris, Chambéry, Lyon, Grenoble, Milan, or Turin, then follow D 2006 to Lanslebourg, then 450 m on “route de l’Iseran” D902 to the Folgoët bridge. If coming from Italy, the Col du Mont Cenis route allows you to bypass the Fréjus tunnel.

These rooms are allocated to the ‘hard’ and ‘medium’ groups, who will not use them on Monday and Tuesday nights.

10 additional places, in apartments of 4 people, have also been reserved for those who wished to register only from Friday evening to Sunday.

Sheets are provided, but towels are not. Meals are prepared on-site using organic and local ingredients. A bar will be open daily from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Accommodation includes full board, with a picnic lunch provided for the following day (except for the night of Wednesday, July 1, which is half-board).

A swimming pool, currently under renovation, is expected to be accessible during your stay.

Pets are not allowed at the C.I.S. (and are also prohibited in the Vanoise National Park).

In the mountain shelters, participants must pay for half-board and any additional expenses directly. Group rates for half-board range from €46 to €64, depending on the shelter. The picnic on Monday 29th will be provided by the C.I.S. Monday to Wednesday (29/06 to 1/07)

The participants will be divided into 7 groups:

Easy-Cool (20 people): This group will enjoy easy hikes with minimal elevation gain, complemented by cultural visits. They will return to the center each evening.

Easy-Trek (20 people): This group will embark on an easy trek on Monday and Tuesday, with an overnight stay in a refuge on Monday. A hike will be offered on Wednesday.

4 Medium Treks (14 people): The Medium1 and Medium2 treks, covering longer distances and greater elevation gains, will include overnight stops at two different shelters on Monday and Tuesday. The treks Médium3 and Médium4 will spend the 2 nights in the same refuge.

1 Trek Hard (12 people): Designed for experienced mountain hikers, this trek will be led by a professional mountain leader.

During the weekend, each person will have to do at least one of the two hikes corresponding to the trek in which he is registered.

L’Ecot Bonneval sur Arc

The proposed hikes and treks have been chosen by excluding high altitude passages that might be impassable at the end of June. Nevertheless, in case of snow coverage or exceptional weather conditions, we may be led to propose fallback options.

Access to the departure of several hikes and treks can be done by the bus line Modane <-> Bonneval sur Arc. But high-altitude departures (not served before July 6) or early departures will need to be joined by carpooling. For this, compensation for drivers of €0.50/km will be shared between the passengers (i.e. for the round trip x €uros for a journey of x km).
